• What advice would you now give to someone writing his/her first scientific paper?
Do not wait until the last minute to start it. Start from the first day of class collecting data on the topic you want to use for your paper. The more information you have the better your will be.
• What areas do you feel you strengthened in the past 10 weeks?
I feel I have strengthened my revision and updates. I have learned to use transitions something I had never used much of before, to make my paper flow better.
• What areas do you feel still need improvement in regards to writing?
Grammar and spelling have always been a weakness for me. Comma usage is another.
• Any final thoughts or statements to make before we wrap up?
I have really enjoyed this class all though I did not get to spend the time on it that I wish I could have.

My Ideas About my Topic
The subject of stem cell research has been one that I have read about alot since October 24th, 2007 when my son was dignosed with type I diabetes. Immediately my husband and I started searching on the internet for a cure a way to help our son. He was only 4 years old and it was killing us to see him going through this. My husband was the one that first seen the stem cell research and started reading about. First let me say I do not believe in abortion or the destroying of life at all, but in my reading through the years about stem cell research embryos is the best place to the stem cells needed for the research for varing reasons. If these precious babies are going to be aborded anyways or the embryos left over from in vitro fertilization are just going to thrown away why can't we use these to do research that will help others. It has already been proven in the UK that stem cells can cure type I diabetes. So as you can see this subject is very close to home for me, and yes I think that is going to influence my paper a great deal.

Whats been going on with me
As I stated in my last post I have had a lot going on in my life as of late. I am a 41 year old mother that is trying to get my degree in Medical Transcription so that I can add some much needed income to my family. It discuss me and upsets me to no end that a family like mine can not find the help that we need. They cut my sons medicate because as they said he aged out and the income requirements he did not meet. Even though he is type I diabetic and has to have the medicines to live each day, "Its not medically based" I was told by the social worker. We have one income which is my husbands, and 6 kids and grandbaby that lives with us. Two that are diabetic, and then my husband had surgery on his foot last month and is out of work, but we can't get help. I makes me mad when I see others that are dishonest and play the system and get all the help in the world, but the ones like myself that really need the help that is doing the best they can, can't get any help or very little at all. For a family of our size they give us 265 a month for food stamps. This is awful, what has our world come too? What happen to help your neighbor? Why do we seem to not care about anyone but ourself? These are the questions I would like for someone to answer for me.
Academic Challenges
I am finding it difficult lately to get my school work done. I have a large family of 7 kids 6 that still live at home and a granddaugther that lives with us. Two of my younger kids are type I diabetics, and my husband has had surgery on his foot this term as well. Sometimes I wonder how anyone person can have so many difficulties in their life. At times I feel like everytime I turn around something else is happening, and I wonder if this is how other peoples lives are. Last term was when I found out my daughter was type I diabetic just like her brother. I had high hopes that it would happen to one of my other kids, but it did and it was very depressing for me. I need to get my degree because my family needs to added income, but at the same with all that my life demands I find it difficult to get the work done that I need to so that I can finish the degree. Thanks for listening, Donna
